What, so soon? Yes, so soon. This summer's just zipping by, isn't it?
Likewise, this Reader's Pick contest has been an exciting race, with all sorts of twists, turns, and last-minute surprises. Of our three leading stories just a week ago, only one made it to the Honorable Mentions, and our winner was in eighth place. That winner is... [drumroll] Underground Railroad, by Jeff Currier!
In addition to the prized Reader's Pick medal, bragging rights, the ability to link this post on social media, and the uncontrollable glowing green envy of his peers, the writer will also receive a $100 cash prize. That can buy a lot of ramen noodles, folks.
I wish I could mention all of the stories that were in the running. Alas, there are only three Honorable Mentions per month. Against competition like this, it's a tremendous honor. Be very proud.
A Heaven For Holograms, Stefan Grieve
Being Mind-Full, Anne Wilkins
Spellfall, Patrick Kemp
As a reminder: The Reader's Pick is unique, in that it's based solely on subscriber feedback. If you wrote something we loved, we give you Rockets, and the most Rockets in a month wins. So easy to say; so hard to do. Remember, friends: Rocket Early, Rocket Often!
